History

Thirty-seven members of from Balfour Lodge #188 formed Asheboro Lodge #699. They worked under dispensation until they received their charter on April 21, 1954. The first officers were Keith G. Hodgin, Master; Joe R. Sugg, Senior Warden and Walter Grimsley, Junior Warden. Asheboro Lodge met from 1954 to 1979 in the Balfour Masonic Temple on Sunset Avenue. In 1979 the lodge moved to the old piano warehouse behind the Sunset Theater building owned by Brother Jerry Rowe. Brother Rowe rented the building to the lodge at the rate of $200.00 per month. They met there from 1979 to 1983 when the lodge bought our present building located at 323 Sunset Avenue.

In the fifty-two years Asheboro lodge has been chartered it is very proud that it has never had a repeat master. We have also grown in membership to the largest lodge in the 24th Masonic District.

The future looks very bright for our lodge as we raise new members each year. We are also on the Grand Masters Five Star program for charity. In the past ten years Asheboro Lodge has sponsored three children at the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford and one lady at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home at Greensboro.
